Baccarat is a card game played by gamblers around the world. In many ways Baccarat is similar to the game of blackjack, but the chance of winning is more likely. The bets are placed on the table prior to the cards being dealt. This game can be played with little or no skills at all.
The goal of the game is to total the sum of your cards and obtain a sum that is closest to nine a possible (if the sum of your cards is 10 the your total is actually only zero, if the total of your cards is 18 then your sum is 8, you use the number in the ones space and drop the tenth space). The cards value from Ace through nine is the face value of the card and all face cards and tens are considered baccarat, which also means zero. Therefore a player’s hand consisting of a three and a ten would have a score of three, well a player with two face cards has zero.
The game of Baccarat (“bac-car-ah”) has been the entertainment of gamblers since the Middle Ages. In earlier times the game was played with cards extracted from a Tarot deck.
Back in the 1490’s a newer version of Baccarat was initiated in Italy . The game, up to the present time, is still one of the most popular games played in European casinos. The game of Baccarat was named after an Italian word meaning zero. The word refers to the value of the face cars and tens, which has a value of zero.
The version of this game was introduced to other parts of the country also. In the 1500’s the game was presented to some French aristocrats with who wanted a new and stimulating game. They called the game “Chemin De Fer” which was the French term for railroad. The game was then introduced on the French Riviera in the 1900’s. The players than nicknamed the game “Chemmy” or “Shimmy”.
The game of Baccarat, which is played in American casinos, is very comparable to the game of Chemin de Fur. The two games are very similar the only difference is the player banks the game instead of the casino as in the game of Baccarat. The turn of the banker rotates around the table as the game. The fun and profitable thing about being the banker is you assume no risk. As a banker you charge each and every players a fee.
Although European Baccarat was introduced in England it is also known as American Baccarat since the game quickly spread from England to America . Baccarat was introduced at the casinos in La Vegas shortly after the Cuban government closed the Havana casinos in the 1950’s.
